Thanksgiving Blessings in X-stitch

Some time ago, I discovered a Paper Smooches die that cuts a grid for x-stitching on paper. I have wanted to use it for a while and it was the only one on the market. I am seeing more of them now so decided to give it a shot. I am experienced at even-weave stitchery but stuck to the basics. The only "rule" I followed was keeping all of the x's crossed the same way.
In the future I think a heavier weight cardstock would be in order. I used six strands of DMC embroidery floss for the x-stitches, four strands for the backstitching and a size 18 tapestry needle. I wanted to keep the card CAS but it wasn't easy and may have too many layers.
The leaves are die cut and hand-embossed, backed with foam tape and adhered over the stitchery. The card was assembled onto a card base. The inside was decorated with a strip of patterned paper coordinating with the card front.

I am submitting this card to:

  1. What a fabulous way to interpret the sketch! I loved cross stitching many years ago...before I had to keep the needles away from tiny little fingers. It would be such fun to stitch on cards! Great job and thanks for playing along at AHSC!

  8. This is a really neat idea for this sketch - very unique. The colours are perfect for fall and this type of stitching is a very different idea. Just a hint re the stitching because you mentioned that it was tight... I do a lot of hand stitching on cards and layouts using embroidery floss - it helps to separate the stands into 2 or 3 for this purpose. 6 is definitely too thick. 3 strands is usually ideal. Thanks for joining us at Atlantic Hearts :)

    1. Thank you for your kind comments, Alyson. I don't believe it was too tight. The problem was that the lighter weight cardstock becomes soft and worn from the constant handling. The stitch count is 7 stitches per inch. To achieve good coverage I elected to use the full 6-stranded skeins.
